Youth

LIFE Meeting – Moved to the 16th
If you or your teen are attending this summers trip to the LIFE conference in Louisville, Kentucky this applies to you. It is very important that you attend the LIFE meeting we will be having on Wednesday June 16th right after High School Youth Group. Look for the meeting to start at about 8:45 pm and run for about a half an hour. Please make sure that the teen that is going is in attendance. Bring any questions that you have. We will be going over all the final details of the trip. A reminder, the trip is July 5-11. If you cannot make it to the meeting please talk to Pastor Dan ahead of time.

Friday Night Live on the 18th. That’s this Friday!
Well, school is out and we don’t want the teens wondering the streets, so we are throwing a party. This week we are having a Friday Night Live. It’s a time when we give the teens a place to hang out. A night filled with fun, friends, food, games, and prizes. It starts at 7 pm and runs till 11 pm. We will have a $5 cover charge to help cover the cost of food. This event is specifically designed for our youth to bring their friends. Everyone should think of someone new to invite. Also, are you a parent of a teen that would like to help with this event? We could really use your help. If you have any questions see Pastor Dan.

Engaging in Worship

As you come in to the Sanctuary each week, come with hearts that are already prepared. Come on time and sit toward the front. Though we have facilitators on the platform, you are the worship team for an audience of one.

Encore Online

If you can’t attend the “encore” bible study at church, why not log in from home and join our live feed. Simply go to www.instantpresenter.com/encore1. Type in your name, location and email address. You will then be able to see and hear the study that includes both live teaching and multi-media features. If you have a question or would like to make a comment, you can use the text chat feature at the bottom of the screen. Note: This is a great first step for a curious seeker. Try it yourself and then tell a friend.

Encore

Starting Tuesday, May 4, a quiet experiment is going public. For people who cannot attend church on Sunday mornings due to work (or for those who miss church for a variety of reasons), there is an encore presentation of the Sunday morning sermon. We meet in Pastor Mike’s office from 7:30 – 8:30 p.m., and use an informal Bible study format. Come join us any Tuesday and tell a friend.

Invite a Friend to Church

Studies show that 95% of people who visit church do so at the invitation of a friend. Four out of every ten people who do not attend church, would visit a church if they were asked. So let’s ask. Let’s think about people that we could serve and tell them about our services.

India Outreach Team

Currently we have four teams that are working to reach people in our local community for Jesus. Now we are introducing a fifth team to reach across the globe and touch the people of India. This group will meet on the last Wednesday of each month. Is God calling you? To express interest or receive information, sign up on the Communication Card on Sunday.

New Round of Discipleship Studies

New Round of Discipleship Studies
Starting May 2, we will be repeating the Level 1 Discipleship class (5 Steps …) and beginning a new unit for Level 2 participants. Level 1 is the best place to start if you have not had any previous discipleship training. Level 2 focuses on our ongoing relationship to Christ; experience his presence and “Growing” in him. Books are available for purchase at the Guest Services Counter (Leve1 = $4, Level 2 = $8. Please use a check or have exact change) Do you need help finding a group? Indicate your interest on the Communication Card on Sunday.

Worship Team

Do you have a passion for worship? Do you see the importance of leading our people into the holy presence of God? Do you like to sing? Have you been called to a ministry of prayer? Would God be honored at your reading of his word? Want to know more? Call Doug Heim at 301-890-6302.

New Sermon Series

On January 17 we started a new series of studies in the sanctuary that coordinates with our adult discipleship ministry. The series is called “Connecting in Christ Together” focusing on the importance of Christian fellowship. Understanding and experiencing biblical community cannot be overstated. Everyone who is in Christ needs to be connected to others who are in Christ. It is not just good for us, it is required by Jesus.

New Year – New Habit

Are you spending time in God’s Word on a regular basis? The start of a new year is always a good time to start ain the church lobby you will find a helpful reading guide. If you don’t have a Bible of your own, we would be glad to provide you with one. All you have to do is ask.

Vision Statement

A vision statement is a word picture of a preferred future. It incorporates our sense of mission and what we believe that God wants to accomplish through us. The short statement below is simple enough to memorize. A more detailed description is also available. If you have not received a copy, stop by the ushers table at the back of the sanctuary on Sunday.

Vision Statement of
First Alliance Church:

We will change our world
by helping people
know God, love life and serve others.

First Alliance Youth

LIFE Car Wash –June 5th
On Saturday, June 5th we will be having a another car wash here at First Alliance church. This will be run by the youth and all donations go to help the teens going to the LIFE conference this summer. This will start at 10 am and run till 2 pm.

Ministering to a Generation!
In the community that we live our teenagers are receiving all kinds of pressure from many different sources. The teens have to choose between what is right and what is wrong every day. In the youth ministry we try to help the teens of today by creating a positive environment for them to interact with their peers. The youth get to make friends while learning and growing spiritually as a group and as individuals. We want to help the youth show this community God’s love in practical ways. The teens who attend youth group have a lot of fun and have made some great friends, I hope that you would come and join us.

Missing Anything?

A variety of clothing items have been left at the church and are hanging up on the coat rack in the hallway between the two buildings. Stop by and see what might you yours. Also, if you left any other items at the church, call the church office to see if we have found them: 301-384-6996.

Vision Statement

Copies of our church’s new vision statement were distributed October 18, 2009. The statement reads:

We will change our world
by helping people
know God, love life and serve others.

Knowing God is possible because of the incarnation of Jesus Christ and the reflection of his life in ours. Loving life is the result of being filled by the Spirit of God, nourished by the Word of God and encouraged by the people of God. Serving others is a calling that follows the example and creativity of Christ who made us to do good works. Changing our world is possible because of the change that Jesus can make in us as we submit our lives to him. Changing the world around us is a measured hope of making a difference in the community that God has called us to serve.
